St John's Church

At the heart of our ministry is our commitment to serve the people of the Bailiwick of Guernsey through the pastoral offices of baptism (christening), marriage and funeral services.

This website offers support for those wishing to arrange a christening (baptism) or a marriage service. There is also information about Church of England funerals. Everybody in Guernsey, Alderney and Sark is welcome to discuss these important life events with their local Rector or Vicar.

There are fourteen parishes in Guernsey, plus the church of St Mary, L'Islet in the parish of St Sampson and the tiny (but delightful) chapel of St Apolline in the parish of St Saviour. The Deanery of Guernsey also includes the islands of Alderney and Sark, each served by a single parish, and the island of Herm, where occasional services are held at St Tugual's Chapel. 

Guernsey's legal system and practice are quite different to what is found in the United Kingdom. This is equally true of the Church of England in the Bailiwick of Guernsey. Whilst most of the information in this section is provided to help church officers and members in the Bailiwick, it may be of interest to visitors and to our colleagues in the Church of England.
